Pete Goss Tri's Again!
Power-Store enjoys a long association with Ocean Sailing. In the news at the moment is the current challenge being undertaken by Pete Goss.

Perhaps Pete's most well known venture was Team Philips. She was a giant catamaran designed to beat all records. We designed and built the electrical system for this project and provided components for his previous Vendee Globe challenge boat Aqua Quorum.

After the sad loss of Team Philips, Pete moved on to new, non-marine adventures. However, five and a half years later, he's back with a new boat and a new set of goals. The SeaCart is a 30' all carbon-fibre racing trimaran. Weighing in at just 950Kg with a 50' mast, she flies on a single hull in just 10 knots of breeze! And fly she does - Pete and his team mate Paul Larsen have just managed to win the Freedom Challenge Bowl & Dean and Readyhoff Trophy in the JP Morgan Round The Island Race.

Pete and Paul are soon to undertake the gruelling Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race. The race is often more demanding than offshore sailing since the shallow UK coastline breaks ocean swells into very choppy conditions. Named "Playing For Success", it's also the name of Pete's chosen charity - all proceeds from sponsorship are going to this worthwhile organisation.

Pete Goss approached Power-Store.Com's James Hortop in May to design a lightweight electrical system using the latest technologies to save weight and power.

With no available charging sources from an onboard engine or generator, the entire system had to be as effecient as possible and able to operate from a single solar panel. Therefore, James specified a low-resistance Lifeline AGM battery (to enable faster recharging), advanced solar controller and Link 10 Battery Monitor. The entire system is wired up with our Lifetime Marine Grade Cable and BEP distribution equipment to ensure ultimate reliability and longevity. Due to using high quality Lifetime cable, it's sizing was significantly smaller than that of automotive types. The entire electrical system weighs in at under 30 kilogrammes.

"Innovation, Technology, Challenge & Adventure are the four pillars that we sit all our projects on and any partner needs to reflect these founding principles. We are a family of like minded people and Power-Store's James Hortop has been involved for a long time ensuring that we have what we want. What we want is always that little bit ahead of everyone else. That said it has to be light and perform under dreadful conditions; it always does!" Pete Goss MBE - June 2006.
